The City of Plymouth will celebrate the completion of the final phase of the Northwest Greenway with a ribbon cutting 5 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 21 at a boardwalk over the wetland near Juneau Lane and 57th Avenue N.
Motorists may navigate to 5709 Juneau Lane for the ribbon cutting. On-street parking is available along 57th Avenue N.
The sixth and final phase of the project connected the remaining trail gap west of Juneau Lane to 57th Avenue and included two boardwalks, a rest stop with a bench and a bike rack for trail users.
About the Northwest Greenway
A project more than 20 years in the making, the Northwest Greenway is a nearly 315-acre wooded nature preserve featuring winding bike and pedestrian trails, stretching approximately 2 linear miles from Lake Camelot on the east to the Northwest Greenway Pavilion and Challenge Course on the west.
The Greenway features nearly 7.7 miles of paved trails for walking and biking, scenic overlooks, an open-air pavilion for gatherings and events, a Challenge Course and more. Greenway trails also connect to numerous neighborhood parks and the Plymouth Dog Park, as well as the Medicine Lake Regional Trail, which links to Clifton E. French Regional Park and Elm Creek Park Reserve.
Creation of the Northwest Greenway stemmed from a 2006 voter-approved $9 million referendum to acquire the land and preserve open space. Since then, the project has unfolded in a phased approach from 2015 to 2025.
Designed with two primary goals in mind, the Northwest Greenway preserves high-quality natural resources – creating a wildlife corridor through wetlands and wooded areas – while also offering recreational opportunities for residents and visitors.
